  Valentine's Day

    Fathers Valentine was a bishop near Rome in the year 270 A.D. The Roman Emperor forbade soldiers to marry because he believed married men made bad soldiers. Father Valentine thought this was an injustice, so he performade secret weddings for the Roman soldiers.

    Another legend about St. Valentine is that in order to remind the soldiers of God's love and to encourage them to be faithful Christians, he cut hearts from parchment, giving them to the soldiers. This is possibly the origin of the tradition of hearts representing love, and is used on cards and gifts for Valentine's Day on the 14th of February, his Saint's Day.
